This lecture provides a ‘how to’ exploration of these schedules. Included in the lecture are other selected state ‘specialty census’ which highlights the value of their content in the study and history of family and community life.

Lineage Proof Interest Group (24 Sep 2026)

Meet with others who are interested in joining or learning the benefits of joining a Lineage Proof Interest Group.

Our group meets by Zoom on the 4th Thursday of the month at 7pm.

There are many societies honoring veterans of various wars, from the first wars against the native Americans through those wars some of us remember. The most famous of these are the DAR and SAR, Daughters (and Sons) of the American Revolution. However it is not just warrior ancestors that have lineage societies. From early Artisans through Tavernkeepers, virtually every occupation has a society that honors them.

And there are societies for the very early immigrants. Not only the Mayflower and Jamestowne Societies, but also First Founders of many states and towns, especially in New England.

The dates for qualification vary. NSDOAF, the group for American Farmers, covers the years 4 Jul 1776 – 4 Jul 1914 and honors current farmers as well as ancestors. Basically, if you have any ancestors in the US early, you may well qualify to join a Lineage Society.

All members of NSGS are welcome.

Meet by Zoom

Leader and contact for Zoom link: Cary Stone-Greenstein

Lineage Proof Interest Group (22 Oct 2026)

Lineage Proof Interest Group (28 Jan 2027)

Researching American Patriots (13 Feb 2027)

Researching American Patriots

Presented in person by: Scott Norrick

At the time of America’s independence, the population of the American colonies was about 2.7 million. While 1776 is a pivotal year, the war for independence (the Revolutionary War) was fought from 1775-1783. About 500 thousand Americans served in the Patriots’ cause in some capacity. This presentation will provide a deep dive into discovering and researching your revolutionary ancestors. It will cover the top resources, strategies, websites, libraries, archives, and organizations for learning more about your ancestors at our nation’s founding. Resources and documents available at the National Archives, DAR, SAR, as well as state and local organizations will be included. The presentation will also reveal that many colonists did not support independence and supported the British/Tory cause. It is an exciting time to jump in and learn as much as you can about your revolutionary ancestors!

About the speaker:

Scott Norrick’s passion is connecting people to their past. While providing a list of names, dates and places for ancestors is a start, Scott enjoys helping others discover the stories of triumphs and tribulations that defined our ancestors’ lives. He does this by assisting clients with breaking down their genealogical brick walls and by helping them document the rich stories of their family history. His areas of expertise include research in the American Midwest along with the immigration to the Midwest from Britain, Ireland, and Germanic countries. He also does significant research into Civil War records. He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and a graduate degree from Northwestern University. With over 30 years of family history research experience, he is familiar with all the latest and time-tested genealogical tools. Through his company Ancestral Past, he welcomes the opportunity to assist others on their genealogy journey. He has presented to dozens of genealogical societies, history centers, and libraries.

This program is co-sponsored with the Glenview Public Library. You can attend in person or by Zoom.

Lineage Proof Interest Group (25 Feb 2027)

Lineage Proof Interest Group (22 Jul 2027)
